5One of the better Netbooks I've used.
By SonicSculptor
We own a couple of netbooks in our house. This one is a little better. Build quality is very good and the screen looks nice. Doesn't feel cheap. I have no problems streaming video over the web, as long as I do not use HD. Non-HD Netflix works great, with only a small glitch maybe in the beginning. Remember 1080HD is 2140x1080 or so? in pixels. This screen is only 1024x600. Window performance rating index is about a 2.4 out of the box. Adding 1GB more memory and 8GB of ready boost(in the SD slot, 8GB SD card was in the box with all 3 of mine) helps quite a bit. Samsung add-ons are actually nice, simple tools that aren't pc hungry, approriate for a netbook. Screen is scalable above it's max resolution. Allowing you to at least see the whole screen when needed, although a bit squished. Battery life is rated at a max of 9.7 hours. I get 6+hrs on an 80% charge and good use the whole time. (80%=battery life saving feature). It'll sleep for 3+ days on 80% battery. Samsung 'fast start' gets you from sleep to working in 3-5 seconds. Audio is decent and reasonably loud.
Mine have Intel Atom N455 processor @1.67Ghz Hyper-threaded(1 core, 2 logical), 1GB DDR3 Memory, GMA 3150 Graphics(?64mb dedicated & up to 192mb shared= 256mb max) Although a little slow. These little powerhouses will do 90% of what most common folks use a pc for: web surfing/shopping/streaming/WEB games, email, social ntw, word processing. I think people forget just how much a pc with these specs can accomplish.

I'll finish saying, Samsung has been slow to get info/support online for this unit to date. I can't even register it yet. I also am having a hard time nailing down a memory upgrade. Time should fix this.

Overall good product. If you have a link for a Samsung n145-jp02, 2GB DDR3 memory module; please leave the link in a comment. :)

4Pretty nice little computer!
By B. Carr
OK, here goes. First of all, I did not purchase this on Amazon. I won it in a contest. The Samsung JP-02 is a netbook. It is not a laptop or notebook, and if you were expecting one, then this is not for you. For basic web surfing, email, and watching videos this is very well suited. I do not play games on it but would not expect that it would be powerful enough for most of the popular ones. Just as with any computer, it has it's strengths and weaknesses. First off, although it will play videos from youtube, wimp etc., it is not powerful enough to watch TV shows or movies that are streamed on the net. Secondly, it is only 1.6 GH for the processor, so it will not do very labor intensive tasks. Thirdly, it only comes with a 250 GB harddrive. Your best bets would be to use a security program like Micro Soft Security Essentials, which does not consume huge amounts of power and although it is free, it is competent and does the job. I would also not worry about upgrading the Windows 7 starter to the full blown Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. Also, one upgrade that I did not do yet but which is worth it, is upgrade your ram to 2 GB. There is only 1 GB that comes with it. Open the bottom of the case and pull out the ram chip. Be careful not to break it. Look underneath and it will tell you whether to add DDR2 or DDR3. Get the proper ram, and buy it from Amazon. If you buy it in the stores, it will cost double or triple. Also it does not come with a DVD drive. I do not own one yet, but I am sure it will be fast enough watch movies from the DVD. Also, save some space and take out the bloatware (games and trial software) you do not need.

If you buy a laptop/notebook in this price range, you get nothing more than the same specs with a larger, more pixilated screen.

I would venture to say that, although I do not have children, I think this little netbook, would work fine for them.

Pros:
Sturdy
Nice keyboard
Fast enough
Great price
Nice software
Tiny size
Non-glare screen

Cons:
Too slow for streaming

I know that Amazon will probably delete this, but the ram upgrade is crucial CT1881706, which they do not sell.

4Nice Netbook!
By Peter Greene
Unlike the previous review, I use this little gem for streaming all the time. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and YouTube all work just fine. Occasionally the very beginning of a video will be a tad jerky until the hard drive settles down. Hitting pause and having a minute of patience makes all the difference.

This netbook feels quite solid. The trackpad, while a bit small for my taste, works very well and I rarely bother to hook up a mouse. So far battery life has been excellent and I have plenty of power to spare after 4 or 5 hours of solid use. I haven't let the battery go to see how long it will last as I haven't had the opportunity yet. Based on my experience though, the battery seems pretty stout.

It has an ethernet port which comes in handy when trying to set up a new router. The wireless has been dependable from day one.

The only problem I've had is that the 8Gb SD card that was shipped with mine was DOA. Customer Support has yet to send me a replacement.
